Ok so we’re a little in 2018 now, the Oscar nominations are out and we can officially start looking forward to the next eleven and a half months of movies that are coming out. To be quite honest, there looks like an awful lot of sequels and comic book movies coming out this year, which is cool and all that but most of these kinds of films are starting to run a bit dry for me, especially the MCU films, which so far this phase have done little to “wow” me in the same way a film like The Winter Soldier did. Needless to say though, there are comic book movies on this list, so don’t freak out when you see them after this opening. It’s inevitable at this point. But there’s a bunch of non comic book movies coming out too and I’m plenty exited for them! So in no particular order, here’s a list of the films I’m most excited for this year!
Well-that just happened. Hello all, been awhile hasn’t it? Yes I know, this channel has been a bit quiet as of late, and I do apologize. Working at the time on two Youtube channels and at Creators took up a lot of time but now I’m back and what a perfect way to return to Reel than with The Last Jedi. While many critics and publications have been releasing their “Best of 2016” lists right around now, I’m going to look to the future and give you what I’m most excited for in 2017. If I could, I would put almost every film in 2017 on this list as they should all be anticipated until we know a bit more about it. Judging simply by a poster or the cast and crew isn’t a fair way to anticipate something until one has seen or learned more. But based on the information we have, or based on the strength of the series, I have picked 20 films that I’m pretty stoked to see this year. Of course, there are more than 20 but having 26 say just seemed off. Will all these movies end up being good? Who knows, I know a lot of my 2016 picks ending up being duds. But here’s to being optimistic and being treated with some awesome films. Here are my 20 most anticipated films of 2017!
Spoiler free for the plot!
Very minor aesthetic spoilers!
After plenty of anticipation, trepidation and curiosity, the first Star Wars spinoff film is here and it’s a unexpected beast. This is the prequel fans have been waiting for. Set immediately before the events of A New Hope, Rogue One gives us a brand new cast of characters and expands on the established history of the series. The film finds its own identity early on, stepping away from some establishments and having a gritty dark tone that sets it apart from the saga films. Be warned, this movie isn’t for young kids. Instead, this one is for the older fans who have grown up on the franchise and the film delivers a great film for that audience.
We got a new trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story today after a new poster was revealed yesterday on The Star Wars Show. This is the third and final trailer and definitely shows the most in terms of plot so for those who want to go in completely blind, stop reading here. I’ve really enjoyed the tone and feel the first two trailers established and despite some criticism I have on this trailer, December 16th can’t get here any sooner.
It’s fitting that the first post on my new blog would be what reinspired me to write about film. After days of teasers, speculation and theorizing, NBC released the hotly anticipated follow up trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars story last night. Well into the night, I had a wonderful time discussing the trailer online with friends and other fans over Twitter and in the Collider Jedi Council group, home to thousands of Star Wars fans. To be so inspired again to talk about a medium and a series that you love gave me great joy and I was reminded that I used to write about film quite regularly, whether it was a review or reporting the news. So I wasted no time and created this platform to give you this article and hopefully many more to come.
